Next summer, there will be a big splash from Phoebe Dynevor in director Tommy Wirkola’s thriller set in an ocean.
The formerly nameless film will now be called Beneath the Storm and will be released in theatres on August 1, 2025, according to a Sony Pictures announcement on Wednesday. Plot specifics for the project, which supposedly involves sharks, have not yet been released.
Producers Adam McKay and Kevin Messick are behind the project, which stars Whitney Peak and Djimon Hounsou together.
Beneath the Storm will play against The Bad Guys 2, a DreamWorks Animation and Universal Pictures film that premieres on August 1 and coincidentally has an anthropomorphic shark as one of its main characters. Awkwafina, Marc Maron, Craig Robinson, Anthony Ramos, Sam Rockwell, and Zazie Beetz are among the voice actors for the animated follow-up.
Films include Dead Snow, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, What Happened to Monday, and Violent Night have all been directed by Wirkola. In June, the French Annecy Animation Festival had the world premiere of his humorous animated film Spermageddon.
In the wildly popular Netflix series Bridgerton, Dyvenor played Daphne Bridgerton in her breakthrough role. In addition, she made a comeback to Younger and co-starred with Alden Ehrenreich in the critically acclaimed psychological thriller film Fair Play, which debuted at Sundance and was later streamed on Netflix.
Among Hounsou’s most recent credits are the Rebel Moon movie directed by Zack Snyder, Gran Turismo, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, and A Quiet Place: Day One. Peak is best known for Hocus Pocus 2 and the revival of Gossip Girl.
With its smash love drama It Ends With Us, Sony is capping off the summer with a bang. The Colleen Hoover novel’s film version, starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, made nearly $50 million in its first weekend of sales.
