Nintendo sets a release date for the live-action Legend of Zelda film. The roughly 30-episode video game series, which started in 1986, follows the young hero Link as he travels through mystical realms to save the titular Princess Zelda and defend the country of Hyrule from malevolent forces. Nintendo said in November 2023 that they were working on a live-action Legend of Zelda film, with Derek Connolly (Jurassic World) penning the screenplay and Wes Ball (The Maze Runner, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes) directing.

There is still a long wait for the video game adaption, even if the project has been given a release window one year later. A Nintendo financial report (via IGN), the live-action Legend of Zelda film is slated for release in “202X,” which means it should happen before the end of the decade and at most five years from now.

What Live-Action Legend of Zelda’s Release Window Means For The Movie

The live-action Legend of Zelda film is still in development and should be released by the end of the decade, according to the release window. The film’s director, Wes Ball, stated that he intends to create a “live-action Miyazaki,” a reference to the renowned director of Spirited Away, My Neighbour Totoro, Howl’s Moving Castle, Kiki’s Delivery Service, and numerous more Studio Ghibli masterpieces. Moreover, Ball does not aim to extensively rely on motion capture and wants his adaptation to be “serious”.
