The Penguin Lessons, an upcoming comedy-drama starring Oscar contender Steve Coogan (who starred in Philomena and The Reckoning), will officially open on the date announced by Sony Pictures Classics. The movie made its international premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival last year prior to its theatrical release.

“The film inspired by the true story of a disillusioned Englishman who went to work in a school in Argentina in 1976,” reads the official synopsis. “Expecting an easy ride, Tom discovers a divided nation and a class of unteachable students. However, after he rescues a penguin from an oil-slicked beach, his life is turned upside-down.”

What is the Release Date of The Penguin Lessons?

The Penguin Lessons is scheduled to be released on March 28, 2025. On this day, the movie will have competition from the horror comedy Death of a Unicorn from A24, the comedy The Ballad of Wallis Island from Focus Features, and the horror thriller The Woman in the Yard from Universal Pictures.

BAFTA-winning screenwriter Jeff Pope, who wrote for Stan & Ollie and The Lost King, wrote the screenplay for the movie, which was directed by Oscar contender Peter Cattaneo, best known for The Full Monty.
