Plot

Actor and activist Christopher Reeve portrayed Superman in films from the 1970s and 1980s. His tragic and redeeming life is chronicled through never-before-seen family videos and personal archives. Following a near-fatal horseback riding accident that left him paralysed from the neck down, Reeve discovered the value of bravery and committed his life to fighting for the rights of people with disabilities.

Alexandra Reeve Givens, Will Reeve, and Matthew Reeve are among the other Reeve family members that appear in the movie in addition to Christopher and Dana Reeve. Reeve’s half-brother Kevin Johnson, Reeve’s ex-girlfriend and mother of Matthew and Alexandra Gae Exton, actors Jeff Daniels, Susan Sarandon, Glenn Close, and Whoopi Goldberg, former Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation Senior Vice President of Government Relations Michael Manganiello, former Senator John Kerry, activist Brooke Ellison, Superman producer Pierre Spengler, Dr. Steven Kirshblum, chief medical officer of the Kessler Institute, and Reeve’s assistant Laurie Hawkins were among those interviewed.

Archival film of Superman director Richard Donner is also featured, as is Robin Williams, a comedian and close friend of Robert Reeves.
