Google is incorporating Gemini AI into all of its products; the most recent version allows Gmail users to create calendar appointments with just one click. In email threads including talks about meetings, a new calendar button will show up, enabling users to make arrangements right away. Although it is unable to invite people at this time, the Gemini sidebar will confirm the event and provide an edit option. As Google is adding more AI-powered services, this update builds on Gemini’s prior search and messaging connections.

‘Add to Calendar’ Button Operation

This upgrade will cause Gmail to automatically identify emails with event-related information and provide a “Add to Calendar” button at the top. A sidebar verifying that Gemini has created an event in Google Calendar appears when the button is pressed. Digital Trends claims that the AI won’t automatically invite people to the event.

When an email contains calendar-related content, Gemini will automatically identify it and display a “Add to calendar” button. The Gmail side panel will popup to verify that the event has been added to the calendar once you click the button.

Customers of Google Workspace now have access to a cool new Gmail feature driven by Google’s Gemini AI. On Monday, users will be able to add events straight from an email to a Google Calendar.

In a blog post, Google explains that the feature is currently only accessible online and in English. Other guests won’t be included in a calendar event made using the “Add to calendar” option, and it won’t show up in emails that already extract events, such as bookings for restaurants and flights.

Who Can Use This Feature?

Currently, the “Add to Calendar” button is only accessible in English and is only available in Gmail’s web version.

The new capability is available to clients with a Gemini Education, Gemini Education Premium, or Google One AI Premium subscription, as well as those on the Google Workspace Business and Enterprise tiers.

Google’s Gemini AI is becoming a crucial component of Gmail’s operation, going beyond simply adding events. It can help users with a number of activities, like writing thank-you notes, professional emails, follow-ups for job interviews, employee reviews, and personalised well-wishes.

The newest Gemini-powered function to access Gmail inboxes is “Add to calendar.” Google updated Gmail on the web in June 2024 to include new features that allow users to create emails, summarise email chains, ask questions, and retrieve specific information from emails in an inbox.
