Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts will be the dramatic wrap-up to Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film’s director, Jake Schreier, has put together a strong cast of antiheroes and criminals who work for the government. The Fantastic Four, which opens phase six of the project, made its debut at San Diego Comic-Con.

The movie Thunderbolts will be released on May 2, 2025.

Storyline

Not many plot details have been released. The trailer suggests a group of characters with uncertain motives forming a team. Each member appears to be searching for direction. One main mystery is the character Bob, played by Lewis Pullman. His role and identity may be central to the story.

Another point revealed is that Valentina now owns the Avengers Tower, renamed the Watchtower. This may indicate her influence over the team. Her goals are unclear, especially since she has a history of assigning violent missions to some team members.

Writer and Director

Thunderbolts* is the first MCU film that Jake Schreier is directing. His most well-known film is Paper Towns (2015). The screenplay is being written by Eric Pearson, who has written screenplays for Black Widow and Thor: Ragnarok.

Production

The production was put on hold owing to the Hollywood strikes in 2023, so the release date was pushed back more than once. Some actors have been forced to leave the movie because of the drastic changes in production.
