Ally Sheedy and Molly Ringwald are trading detention for dinner. The two actresses are well-known for their roles in John Hughes’ cult teen film The Breakfast Club. The former Brat Packers reunited for what Ringwald described as an “early Christmas present” nearly 38 years after the film’s debut in February 1985.
Ringwald, 54, posted a picture on Sunday of herself and her “psychic sister Ally” embracing for the camera as they dined at the Cafe Luxembourg in New York City.
Cat Powers and Susannah Hoffs of the Bangles, two of Ringwald’s fans, expressed their joy at the reunion.
“Squeal!!!!!!!” wrote Nia Vardalos, star of My Big Fat Greek Wedding, and numerous fans demanded a Breakfast Club sequel.
“My Gen X heart just skipped a beat!” read another comment. “This is just so good to see!”
In the decades since their film’s release, Sheedy, 60, and Ringwald have made a few appearances alongside their former co-stars. In the detention drama, the actresses, who played misfit Allison and “princess” Claire, respectively, attended the MTV Movie Awards in 2005 with Anthony Michael Hall (Brian) and Paul Gleason (Vice Principal Vernon). They paid tribute to their late director, John Hughes, alongside Hall and Judd Nelson (Bender), five years later at the Oscars in 2010. In 2015, in honor of the film’s 30th anniversary, Sheedy and Ringwald also made an appearance at SXSW.
