In March of 2022, Honda and Sony shocked the world by announcing that they would collaborate on the development of a battery-electric SUV. Not only that, but the storied electronics and automobile manufacturers would also collaborate on the project. The project was spun off into its own business by June, and Sony Honda Mobility unveiled its first prototype at CES 2023, less than a year after it was first announced. The Afeela is now the Vision-S 02.
Several details about the upcoming vehicle were shared by Sony executives, including the vehicle’s 14 exterior cameras—45 in all!— “which allows intelligent mobility to express itself to surrounding people using light, enabling interactive communication between mobility and people,” according to the release on Wednesday, as well as a “Media Bar” mounted on the grille that will display pertinent charging and vehicle information. SHM also said that online pre-orders will start in the middle of 2025, and deliveries will take place in the spring of 2026.
