A brand-new revival is bringing a long-dormant horror movie franchise back to life. Almost twenty years after the first film’s release, the announcement has been made.
Wolf Creek, a horror film, was released in 2005. The movie, which starred John Jarratt as serial killer Mick Taylor, followed British tourists as they were pursued by the killer in the outback of Australia. In Jarratt’s follow-up, which was published in 2013, Mick once more went after visitors who erroneously enter his domain. Jarratt would also play Mick in the Australian TV series from 2016 to 2017, which focused on an American teen visitor.
Although the new movie is being referred to as a “reboot,” it is unknown if and how it will make reference to the events of the TV spinoff and earlier films. Nevertheless, considering the title of the movie and the return of the franchise’s star, it appears likely that the new picture will be viewed as a legacy sequel. For Wolf Creek: Legacy, Jarratt will reprise his role as Mick Taylor. The screenplay was written by Duncan Samarashingle, and Sean Lahiff is directing. Wolf Creek: Legacy is produced by Greg McLean, who also conceived the franchise and directed the preceding movies.
“I’ve always believed in the power of fresh perspectives, and that’s why I’m thrilled to introduce Sean Lahiff as the director of Wolf Creek Legacy,” McLean said in a statement. “Sean isn’t just stepping into this world; he’s been a part of it for years. This new chapter in the Wolf Creek saga is something I’m incredibly excited about: it’s a bold new story that honors the roots of the franchise while pushing it into new, uncharted territory.”
Actor Jay Ryan from It Chapter Two is the only other member of the cast that has been revealed thus far. Executive producing are Adrian Speckert and Cory Todd Hughes.
Details about the upcoming franchise chapter’s plot have been made public. The focus of the narrative in this one will be American tourists. The movie’s plot is summarised as follows: “When the parents sacrifice themselves to save their children, the kids find themselves alone, lost and hunted in the vast Australian wilderness. Will this fresh prey – two wily, resourceful Zoomers – prove harder for the aging predator to consume?”
Although there isn’t a release date for the reboot yet, horror enthusiasts can watch the earlier flicks on Netflix. Both Wolf Creek 1 and Wolf Creek 2 are presently available for free viewing on Pluto TV and Tubi, respectively.
