This weekend, James Cameron made film history once more, as he has numerous times throughout his legendary career.
His anticipated follow-up, “Avatar: The Way of Water” has earned over $2 billion worldwide.
This total includes the film’s earnings from this weekend’s box office, its sixth consecutive weekend at the No. 1 spot since its December release.
“Avatar: The Way of Water” is a sequel to Cameron’s 2009 extraterrestrial epic “Avatar” is still the highest-grossing film of all time according to Box Office Mojo.
The 1997 film “Titanic” belongs to the $2 billion club as well. That group only includes three other films: 2015’s “Star Wars: Episode VII: The Force Awakens” and “Avengers: Infinity War” Avengers: Infinity War” from 2018 and “Avengers: Endgame” published a year later.
As a result, Cameron is the only filmmaker who can claim that three of his films are among the six that have grossed more than $2 billion and are among the top six bestselling films of all time.
In the future, the director intends to release at least three more “Avatar” sequels.
