Zach Cregger, the director known for the successful horror film Barbarian, is poised to write and helm a new installment in the Resident Evil film series, inspired by the renowned horror video game franchise.
The film will be produced by Constantin Films, which, together with PlayStation Productions, has long held the Resident Evil movie rights.

Cregger is most known for his work as a founding member of the comedy duo The Whitest Kids U’ Know, which he founded alongside the late Trevor Moore and Sam Brown. Along with directing the 2009 comedy Miss March, he became a well-known director following the release of the 2022 horror movie Barbarian, which was well-received by the horror community and had a lot of success.
Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich, Benedict Wong, Austin Abrams, Amy Madigan, June Diane Raphael, Cary Christopher, and Clayton Farris are among the cast members of Cregger’s next movie, Weapons. Interconnected tales centred on the unexplained disappearance of youngsters during the night are explored in the narrative. The movie will be released on January 16, 2026.
