As Boston Bhangra prepares for its 20th anniversary competition this Saturday in Boston, the organization’s founder, Rohit Bhambi, muses on the Bhangra dance’s expanding appeal in North America.

The prestigious Strand Theatre in Boston will host the 20th annual Boston Bhangra Competition on Saturday, December 2, 2023.
Ten of the top bhangra teams in North America will compete at Boston Bhangra in an attempt to become the inaugural Boston Bhangra Champions. The show has been incredibly successful for the past 19 years thanks to generous sponsorship, selling out with 1,400 attendees each time!
Punjab and some other regions of Pakistan are home to the folk dance known as bhangra. It’s a fun and energizing dance to watch. It has been likened to a culturally-infused blend of hip hop and cheerleading. It is among the world’s most emerging foreign dance styles and has been incorporated into numerous hip hop/reggae songs.
Boston Bhangra released a statement saying, “We will also have special guest performances by Bhangra legend Miss Pooja from the US.” “She is the most successful female Bhangra performer in history. Mera Mahi, Desi Jatt, Seeti Maar Ke, Aashiq, Boli, Gidha Pao, Photo, and many more are among her megahit songs.
