“Descendants: The Rise Of Red” Breaks Viewership Record For Three Days onDisney+

The movie is currently Disney Branded Television’s most-viewed DCOM premiere ever on the streamer, with 6.7 million views in its first three days of availability, the company announced.

This is a large number for any Disney+ release, but because the streamer has been inconsistent in its reporting of viewership, it is challenging to make direct comparisons with other titles. In three days, the opening of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour received 4.6 million views earlier this year.

Disney+ revealed the six-day viewership total for Percy Jackson and the Olympians when the series premiered in December. Disney published The Acolyte’s one-day viewership statistics in June; the show received about 4.8 million views. A five-day audience number for that premiere was then shared by the streamer. In October, three-day audience figures for Loki Season 2 were also obtained. During that period, it garnered over 10 million views, making it one of the most popular programmes on Disney+.

Disney+ is particularly interested in kid-friendly films, so it stands to reason that Descendants: The Rise of Red would do well from the start. Again, this is not a very straight comparison, but Disney+ defines views as hours viewed divided by runtime. The third Descendants movie attracted slightly more than 8 million viewers when it debuted on Disney Channel. That suggests that the movie did about as well as it could have if it had made its linear TV premiere.

On August 9, the movie will be available on cable, and when it debuts on Disney Channel, it should do well once more.

Disney explained there is a lot of buzz about the movie on streaming services as well. In addition to the over 9 billion views the hashtag #Descendants has received worldwide, the music to Descendants: The Rise of Red has already received over 26 million streams across all platforms.

Descendants: The Rise of Red tells the tale of Chloe, Cinderella’s meticulous daughter, and Red, the disobedient daughter of the Queen of Hearts. Polar opposites Red and Chloe must band together and go back in time to reverse the horrific event that led Red’s mother down her evil path when the despotic Queen of Hearts instigates a coup against Auradon.
