The dates of Alien: Romulus’s digital and physical media releases have been announced. Fede Álvarez directed the sci-fi horror sequel, the ninth in the venerable series, which centres on a group of young individuals who go after cryo equipment from a closed space station only to run into the deadly Xenomorph in the process. Lead cast member Cailee Spaeny is joined by David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu in Alien: Romulus.
October 15th is when 20th Century Studios has revealed that Alien: Romulus will be available on VOD services Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home. On that day, it will also be accessible digitally along with the original bundle as a two-movie deal honouring the 45th anniversary of Alien. On December 3, Romulus will be available for physical media distribution on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD.
What The Home Media Release Dates Mean For Alien: Romulus
The Movie Will Be Leaving Theaters After A Landmark Run
The official declaration of the film’s digital and physical release dates indicates that the theatrical run of Alien: Romulus is finally coming to an end. After only six weeks of release, the film has become a smash, collecting $342.1 million worldwide on a $80 million budget, and ranking No. 10 on the list of the highest-grossing films of the year thus far. As of this writing, it is also the franchise’s second-highest grossing film.
The revelation of these dates appears to indicate that Disney, the parent company of 20th Century Studios, and the studio are confident in the heights that the film has attained during its run in theatres. Still, theatrical releases do have an end. It also doesn’t appear like it will be able to make a comeback on the charts given the competition from recent, well-received films like Joker: Folie à Deux and Beetlejuice.
Our Take On The Alien: Romulus Home Release Dates
The Movie May Have The Perfect Release Schedule
Even though Alien: Romulus’s box office chances could be fading, the movie’s home release might be well-timed to offer the picture two more boosts before the year is up. The movie will be able to benefit from Halloween, when horror films typically rule the digital charts, thanks to its October 15 VOD release date. The holiday shopping season and the physical media release date align well, so 20th Century Studios may benefit financially from both releases.
