The Disney+ release date for Inside Out 2 has been disclosed. The film is a follow-up to the 2015 Pixar feature that examined Riley, a preteen girl,’s anthropomorphised feelings. Along with new characters like Anxiety (Maya Hawke) and Envy (Ayo Edebiri), as well as characters with newly recast voices like Fear (Tony Hale, originally Bill Hader), Disgust (Liza Lapira, originally Mindy Kaling), and Riley (Kensington Tallman, originally Kaitlyn Dias), the Inside Out 2 cast also includes returning stars Amy Poehler as Joy and Phyllis Smith as Sadness.
Disney+ has revealed that on September 25, Inside Out 2 will make its official debut on the streaming service. Only three months and eleven days have passed since the film’s June 14 broad cinema debut. Additionally, this provides the upcoming Disney+ debut of a Pixar property—the streaming exclusive series Win or Lose—a broad pass. It is scheduled to launch on the channel on December 6.
What This Disney+ Date Means For Inside Out 2
The Sequel’s Time In The Spotlight Is Over
This Disney+ premiere date marks the end of an era, even though it’s plausible that it was planned before Inside Out 2 was released in theatres. At the conclusion of its theatrical run, the film makes the transition from premium VOD and physical media distribution to subscription streaming. Even though there are currently fewer than 1,000 theatres showing the film, it is still showing as of this writing.
Since the film’s June release, Inside Out 2 has consistently been a box office hit. It has shattered several records, including the fastest animated film to reach the $1 billion mark globally, the eighth-highest grossing film ever, and an undisputed record-breaker, surpassing 2019’s The Lion King to become the highest-grossing animated film ever. But after more than a dozen weeks in theatres, the film’s box office viability has probably officially ended with its release on streaming services.
Our Take On The Inside Out 2 Disney+ Release Date
The Movie Has Further Opportunities To Thrive
Inside Out 2 will be reaching a new audience when it debuts on streaming services in late September, perhaps extending its run as one of the year’s biggest animated hits, even as its theatrical run comes to an end. Since Pixar doesn’t have any new films scheduled for release until June 2025—that month being the premiere of Adrian Molina’s Elio, Madeline Sharafian’s film, and Domee Shi’s Elio—this extended release schedule might be highly beneficial for the company.
