Given that February 14th falls on a Friday in 2025, it would seem that this date would be ideal for the debut of Heart Eyes, a horror romantic comedy set on Valentine’s Day. Sony Pictures has decided to release Heart Eyes on February 7th because the February 14th release date has already been taken by Disney/Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World and Paramount’s animated Smurfs film. On that particular date, Ke Huy Quan’s action film With Love from Universal will compete with it.
Heart Eyes, which is coming from Josh Ruben, the director of Werewolves Within and Scare Me, was scripted by Christopher Landon, the director of Happy Death Day, Michael Kennedy, who wrote It’s a Wonderful Knife and Freaky with Landon, and Phillip Murphy, who was the bodyguard for The Hitman’s Wife.
The movie’s synopsis is as follows: Two coworkers working extra on Valentine’s Day are mistaken for a couple by the elusive couple-hunting killer when the Heart Eyes Killer strikes Seattle. They now have to run for their life on the most romantic night of the year.
Alongside Devon Sawa (Final Destination), Gigi Zumbado (The Price We Pay), Jordana Brewster (The Fast and the Furious), and Olivia Holt (Totally Killer) from the last two Scream films, there are other notable actors.
The prior statement from Ruben was as follows: “My love of horror is rivaled only by my love of romantic comedies. I’m excited as hell to mount my most challenging genre bender to date: a brutal slasher in a nostalgic rom-com universe.“
Heart Eyes has been set up at Spyglass, and Republic Pictures has acquired the film’s international distribution rights. Along with Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath from Divide/Conquer, Landon is producing the movie. Mel Turner, Murphy, and executive producers Gary Barber and Chris Stone of Spyglass.
