The live-action How to Train Your Dragon movie’s sequel has been confirmed before the original picture even opens.
Release Date
On June 11, 2027, How to Train Your Dragon 2 will be released in theaters.
Just two months before the eagerly awaited first live-action film opens in theaters on June 13, 2025, Universal Pictures made the major announcement at CinemaCon in April 2025.
Storyline
The popular DreamWorks animated movies that were first influenced by Cressida Cowell’s book series served as the basis for How to Train Your Dragon. The narrative centers on Hiccup, a Viking youngster who is not particularly accepted by his clan of dragon-slaying people. His friendship with Toothless, an injured dragon, and his realization that dragons aren’t the villains his people believe them to be alter everything.
The original series consists of twelve novels, so there is still a lot of tale to discover. DreamWorks maintained the dragon magic in between films by adding several TV shows to the franchise.
Announcement at CinemaCon
During its CinemaCon presentation, Universal Pictures announced this information. It is a yearly event for proprietors of movie theaters. The first live-action How to Train Your Dragon movie was scheduled to open in theaters two months prior to the announcement. Additionally, Universal showed the first remake at CinemaCon, to resounding reviews.
Cast and Characters
Stoick the Vast actor Gerard Butler made an appearance at CinemaCon. Nico Parker joined him; he portrays a new role. It is based on the same plot as the first animated sequel.

How to Train Your Dragon is a three-part trip, which Dean has always envisioned.
