Finally is a romantic ballad about finding your first love and that long-awaited first kiss. How closely does this song reflect your personal experiences?
Finally relates to me because I did wait longer than most teenagers for my first kiss. I wanted my first kiss to be magical and with the right person. So, I chose to be selective of whom that person would be. When I FINALLY did have that first kiss with Rex, it was the magical moment I had hoped and waited for.
You collaborated with Rex James IV on this duet. What was it like working together, and how did the two of you bring that chemistry to the song?
While working with Rex James IV on Finally we had a great time. The fact that we both are so comfortable around each other made the process of making the song so easy. The chemistry that we both feel is real, which I hope you will be able to see and feel when you hear the song or see the music video. We were both able to deliver our feelings and emotions to the project and make FINALLY what it is.
The song is inspired by the storyline of your upcoming movie Mi Loca Quinceañera. How did your role in the film influence the themes and emotions in Finally?
Originally the song was supposed to be a part of the movie, but as we started writing it, we felt that it had something way more special than just a song in a movie. After long talks with Rex and the team we decided to release it as a country single and we are so delighted to bring it to everyone. We hope you love it as much as we do.
The track was co-written with Andrew Lane and Tess Monepere, among others. What was the writing process like, and how did the song come together as a team effort?
The process for writing Finally was truly amazing. Andrew, Tess and the others really helped me and inspired me the whole way.When I told the team what I was aiming for, everyone had amazing ideas. I loved the brainstorming process and then it was amazing when those ideas came to life in the lyrics.
Finally has a sense of destiny and joy in its lyrics. What message do you hope your listeners take away from this romantic journey?
The message that I hope my fans get from Finally is: Don’t be in a hurry for your first kiss. Make that moment a magical one.
