The crew of Jumanji is returning to the jungle.

According to Sony Pictures, Jumanji 3 will be released in theatres on December 11, 2026. In addition to director Jake Kasdan, who directed both films, Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan are anticipated to return.

The movie, which will be shown in IMAX theatres and premium large format, is produced by Matt Tolmach, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, Kasdan, and Johnson.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle debuted in theatres in December 2017, it made over $950 million worldwide. In 2019, a follow-up hit $801 million worldwide.

A group of teenage pals who are locked inside a video game as a collection of adult avatars is the main plot point of Welcome to the Jungle. In addition to the 1995 film of the same name, which starred Robin Williams, Kirsten Dunst, and David Alan Grier, it was based on the children’s book Jumanji by Chris Van Allsburg, published in 1981.

“I’m sure it’s tricky to wrangle everyone’s schedules, but I haven’t heard anything about it other than the fact that we will be doing it at some point,” she explained at the time. “So we’re all so enthusiastic about it. We all love working on those films, and it’s just a matter of when.”

During an interview with Virgin Radio that published online in fall of 2022, Johnson explained that he “cannot wait” to make the third movie happen and that Kasdan was in the process of developing it. Johnson also teased that the new movie could be the final project for this version of the franchise.

“Jake has a very, very special cool idea that for Jumanji 3 — could be the finale,” Johnson explained at the time. “But in the spirit of that, it’s really special. I’ll just say that.”
