A bilingual movie called Paradise is apparently going to open in theaters soon. The posters for its impending theatrical release have already been seen in major Keralan cities. Darshana Rajendran and Roshan Mathew play the film’s principal characters. In Paradise, Mahendra Perera and Shyam Fernando have supporting parts.
Prasanna Vithanage, a Sri Lankan director, directed this production, which took home multiple accolades at international film festivals. The film Paradise is presented by Mani Ratnam under the Madras Talkies label. The film will be released in Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Sinhala, and English.
The Paradise trailer debuted in March of this year. In this two-minute, 18-second film, Roshan and Darshan’s characters are seen traveling to Sri Lanka to celebrate their fifth wedding anniversary. However, the island nation’s protests compel the couple to face with unexpected situations after a riot breaks out. This puts their friendship and mutual understanding to the test.
Darshana ends the video with a hilarious comment that reads, “Raavana should wake up from his slumber to save Lanka.” Overall, the trailer suggests an interesting story based on real events in the nation. It’s noteworthy that the people in the trailer converse in both Malayalam and English, which makes the pair feel sincere.
At International Film Festivals, Paradise won Awards
At the 2023 Busan Film Festival, Paradise was selected for the Kim Jiseok Award category. The audience was especially impressed by Roshan and Darshana’s performances, which helped the film win the prize. The South Asia Premiere of Paradise also took place in the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival’s ICONS: SOUTH ASIA segment.
Since making its premiere at this month’s New York Indian Film Festival, the film has earned prizes for Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Director, among other categories. It is also nominated in several categories for the 17th Asian Film Awards.
