Korean Cheerleading Drama “Victory” will be Released in North America

Victory, a Korean cheering film, is coming to theatres in the United States. The movie was pre-sold to 815 Pictures for a North American theatre run by Seoul-based sales company Finecut, ahead of its impending South Korean release.

“an uplifting and heartwarming drama centered around a high-school dance duo,” as one reviewer put it, follows the cheerleaders on a secluded Korean island as they motivate an underdog school soccer team and the neighbouring village. The movie, which was directed by Red Carpet and Single in Seoul star Park Beom-su, debuted as the opening title at the most recent New York Asian Film Festival. Lee Hye-ri, one of the film’s stars, received the event’s screen international rising star Asia award.

The movie has also signed partnerships with Sky Films Entertainment for Taiwan, Lumix Media for Vietnam, PT Prima Cinema Multimedia for Indonesia, House of M for Thailand, Emphasis Video Entertainment for in-flight distribution, and Westec Media Limited for Cambodia, among other companies in Asia.

Victory will debut in North America on August 16, not too long after its South Korean premiere on August 14. According to Finecut, the remaining release dates for Asia will take place in August and September.

The remaining cast members are Lee Jung Ha (of the Disney+ hit Moving), who plays the goalie of the school football team that always loses; Park Se-wan (Life is Beautiful), who plays the other half of the dance duo; and Cho A-ram (from the TV series Thank You), who plays a former cheerleader in Seoul who moves to the village.

Victory is produced by Korea’s Annapurna Films, led by Lee Anna, the creator of successful box office films such as Sunny and Scandal Makers. Mindmark, a content intellectual property corporation owned by the Shinsegae Group, is making its presentation. Brave Citizen, Love Reset, and Honey Sweet are just a few of the indigenous titles that Mindmark has financed and distributed in Korea. A Normal Family and Boss by Hur Jin-ho are also on its most recent slate.
