Enjoying the success of his 50th film, Maharaja, which was directed by the renowned Nithilan Saminathan of Kurangu Bommai (2017), is Vijay Sethupathi. Along with garnering critical praise since its June 14 release, the movie has broken box office records both domestically and globally.

Maharaja made $1 million in the United Arab Emirates and one million Malaysian Ringgits in Malaysia, according to the film’s makers’ most recent updates. In the US, it has also become the highest-grossing movie.

Aside from Abhirami, Aruldoss, Munishkanth, Manikandan, Singam Puli, Bharathiraja, and Vinod Sagar, prominent roles in the movie are played by Anurag Kashyap, Sachana Namidass, Mamta Mohandas, and Natty.

With a Tamil occupancy rate of 35.48% on June 22, Maharaja brought in ₹5.4 crore in net revenue. In terms of its worldwide performance, the Tamil movie has made ₹48.2 crore in India and ₹18 crore in gross earnings from international markets. According to Sacnilk, the sum of these numbers equals a gross of ₹66.2 crore.

Sincere gratitude was shown by Vijay Sethupathi to the Kerala audience for their tremendous support in making Maharaja a huge success. He was in the city to witness the celebration of its achievement at Thiruvananthapuram’s Lulu Mall.

The movie has gotten great reviews from viewers, with sold-out screenings all throughout Kerala. Due to high demand, the film, which had only been shown in 100 theatres at first, was shown in over 175 locations during its second week.

While in Kerala, director Nithilan Saminathan explained, “I’ve been told by many that the structure of this film bears similarities to Malayalam cinema. The movie has been warmly embraced by audiences throughout Kerala, possibly because I draw inspiration from watching numerous Malayalam films.”
