Margaret Qualley, who starred in the recent body horror blockbuster The Substance, has been cast in a new horror film called Victorian Psycho.
The movie is set in 1858 and is expected to begin production in March 2025. It centres on Qualley’s character Winifred Notty, who has been sent to teach children in a remote gothic manor, despite her efforts to hide her darker side.
Who is Directing Victorian Psycho?
Zachary Wigon, director of Sanctuary and The Heart Machine, will be directing from a Virginia Feito script. Feito’s upcoming book of the same name serves as the inspiration for Victorian Psycho. In addition, it will be Qualley’s next film with Wigon, after she costarred with Christopher Abbott in Sanctuary in 2022.
Victorian Psycho “will follow a young, eccentric governess named Winifred Notty (Qualley) who arrives at the remote gothic manor known as Ensor House. Winifred’s responsibilities include teaching the children table manners and educating them about their family’s history, all whilst hiding her psychopathic tendencies. As Winifred assimilates into life at Ensor House, staff members begin to inexplicably disappear, and the owners of the estate begin to wonder if there is something amiss about their new governess.”
Longlegs producer Dan Kagan, along with Wigon and Sebastien Raybaud, will produce the movie. Nick Shumaker and Bard Dorros will serve as executive producers.
Qualley is well-known for her portrayal of Jill Garvey in the supernatural drama series The Leftovers, in addition to her leading parts in Sanctuary and The Substance. She also starred in Kinds of Kindness and Poor Things, both films directed by Yorgos Lanthimos.
The Vanishing of Sidney Hall, Adam, Native Son, Death Note, Drive-Away Dolls, Stars at Noon, My Salinger Year, Seberg, Strange but True, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood are among Qualley’s other credits.
