Maya Milan, a tremendous singer from Boston, Massachusetts has been a long time favorite of ours. Born as Maya Russell, she is taking the music industry by storm with her electric voice and extremely strong vocals. She is often also referred to as the ‘Urban Girl Next Door’ as she portrays the struggles young women go through when being in love in her music. She is extremely hardworking and has all the potential to grow even further in her career. She regards herself as the founder of pop soul.
She began singing at the age of three, and at her present age of 24, has not stopped ever since. She began her professional singing journey when at the age of 9 she sang, “If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys at her school’s talent function. She has not only established herself as a singer, but as a songwriter as well.
She has also been a part of extremely notable collaborations, including collabs with Poohbear and Jeremih. She has also been fortunate enough to work with legends of the music industry such as Tina Davis, Dame Dash, and Grammy nominated producer, Zaytoven. In 2017, Maya also performed with Keith Sweat at his Las Vegas residency and thereafter moved forward as an official tour vocalist with him and Teddy Riley. She also regards Teddy Riley as her godfather in the music industry and regards K. Swizzle as her mentor.
She grew up in the DMV and credits that aspect to shaping up her music and states that ‘Growing up in the DMV has shaped my sound as an artist because I get to be a team captain for this city and really push myself to create a sound that people in the industry haven’t heard yet out of this area.’
