Today we’d like to introduce you to Kash Jones.
It’s an honor to speak with you today. Why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today?
Well, my name is Kash Jones. I’m currently the Chief Editor and Head of Publicity and Public Affairs over at Hip Hop Weekly Magazine. Originally from Miami, FL, but these days I’m sprinkling my talents between Atlanta, New York and Los Angeles. Writing and Music were my two first loves, so I think it was certain I’d end up in this position. It’s been a long road, but if I had to sum it up I’d say I got here by having faith, mastering my craft, hard work and consistency. Also, networking. The “who you know” in this business can go a long way. I found a home with a company, showed my worth and the elevation was inevitable from that point.
I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?
Challenges come in many forms. Personally, I’ve had to overcome everything from learning to manage my time better and minimize distractions to envious colleagues trying to assassinate my character, and personal hardships that have affected my quality of work. But through it all, I think it’s important to refocus yourself, maintain faith and continue to work hard. Three things to remember: (1) Nothing worth having comes easy. (2) Your strength is in your struggle, and (3) No challenge is made to break you. Its sole purpose is to make you stronger.
Let’s talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?
Though, gifted with many talents, I professionally specialize in organizational leadership, brand strategy, content creation and artist development. Currently, aside from the magazine, I assist independent artists with publicity and their overall development, from educating them on the business to walking them into the doors of their desired record label.
What’s your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?
A wise person once told me, “Don’t look to the left or right of you. Focus on the person in the mirror. What does she want?” I say that to say, focus on you. Look within yourself and find what serves you. What makes you happy? What do you feel is your purpose? And work diligently toward it. Dismiss all distractions. Educate yourself on your craft and believe in yourself. Anything you put your mind to is already yours once you put in the work. It’s just that simple, and if that isn’t enough, I speak at length on this topic in a short read I published, entitled “Mindset, Ready? Go!: A Jumpstart To Your Renewed Mind To Success”, which is available now on Amazon Kindle.
Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?
Some believe success is measured by the amount of wealth or status you’ve acquired, but success to me simply means waking up and doing what genuinely makes you happy everyday.
What’s next for you?
What’s next? Well, as Editor in Chief I’m guaranteeing the successful rebranding and relaunch of Hip Hop Weekly magazine with the goal of being the future go to for positive news that pushes the culture forward.
As for my personal lineup, I prefer not to speak on projects too much while they’re in the developmental stage, but I have a few books which will be published by the close of the year. My film career is commencing and I have something major coming for the Indie Artists. I can’t wait to share more info on that once we launch.
