The streamer has canceled several scripted shows in recent months as it gets ready for its next slate.

Why Did Peacock Cancel ‘Based On A True Story’ and ‘Mr. Throwback’?

Despite a promising two-season run, Chris Messina and Kaley Cuoco’s dark comedy series Based On A True Story was canceled. After just one season of six episodes, the sports mockumentary Mr. Throwback, which starred Adam Pally and Steph Curry, was also canceled. Peacock did not disclose the number of viewers or the cause of the cancellations.

Cuoco and Messina played a couple who launch a true crime podcast and become involved in their own murder investigation in the film Based on a True Story. Since Season 2 couldn’t break the two-season curse, it also ended on a huge cliffhanger that fans will never see resolved at this rate.

NBA player Stephen Curry played himself in Mr. Throwback, which also starred Ego Nwodim, Ayden Mayeri, and Adam Pally. The episode portrayed a sports memorabilia trader who was seeking to make up with old acquaintances in order to pay off his obligations to the Polish mafia.

Teacup: A Horror TV Show Based on the Novel by Robert R. McCammon

Robert R. McCammon’s book Stinger served as the inspiration for the horror television series Teacup. It chronicles the inhabitants of a secluded ranch in Georgia as they contend with an enigmatic danger. Chaske Spencer, Scott Speedman, and Yvonne Strahovski are among the cast members.

Hysteria Horror-comedy Series

The horror-comedy Hysteria! takes place in the midst of the satanic scare of the 1980s. Bruce Campbell, Julie Bowen, Chiara Aurelia, and Emjay Anthony are among its stars.

However, the streamer still has a number of projects planned for the remainder of the 2025–2026 season.

Following its January premiere, the Ted prequel series became the most-watched original title on the streaming service and was subsequently renewed for a second season. The Traitors and Love Island Games have also been renewed.
