The much awaited Tamil film Raayan, which stars and is directed by Dhanush, is set to hit theatres this Friday.

One of the most anticipated Tamil films of the year is Raayan, as fans are curious to see what Dhanush has in store. Here’s all you need to know about the movie, including the cast and running time as well as the release date.

What is Dhanush’s Raayan movie release date? 

The movie is expected to have competition at the box office from previously released films, such as Sarfira starring Akshay Kumar, Indian 2 starring Kamal Haasan, and Bad Newz starring Vicky Kaushal.

The trailer for Raayan, which featured Dhanush in a graphic action role, sent fans’ expectations soaring. A tragic sequence featuring Dhanush’s character Raayan, who is injured, receiving care from a family member opens the teaser.

Raayan’s father then delivers a stirring speech in which he states, “A wolf is the most dangerous animal in the jungle—not a lion or a tiger.” The lion will defeat the wolf if they square off against one another. A wolf, however, is incredibly smart. They approach in a pack, capture the lion, and then annihilate it.

The main foe of Raayan is portrayed by SJ Suryah. With Sundeep Kishan and Kalidas Jayaram backing him, Dhanush’s character goes on a merciless killing rampage in the trailer’s climactic moments. AR Rahman’s stirring score intensifies the emotional strain even more.

Raayan has also been the subject of numerous storyline theories. According to current speculations, Dhanush’s character in the movie, which was once dubbed a gangster movie, may actually be a police informant. The mystery surrounding his true identity—whether he is a police informant or a mobster masquerading as a restaurant owner—won’t be solved until after the film’s release.

Sun Pictures explained that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had awarded the movie an A certificate. Furthermore, Raayan lasts for two hours and twenty-five minutes.

As previously explained, Dhanush co-stars with Sundeep Kishan, Kalidas Jayaram, and SJ Suryah in the lead role. Prakash Raj, Selvaraghavan, and Dushara Vijayan are also part of the cast. Saravanan, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, and Aparna Balamurali complete the group.

Kalidas Jayaram stated his pleasure about working on the movie, calling it a novel and difficult experience. “Raayan’s world is completely new to me. I thoroughly enjoyed filming it, as it was different and challenging for me to speak in the north Madras slang and look the part,” Jayaram explained.

Dushara Vijayan expressed her excitement as well, telling how she was taken aback and felt privileged to be contacted by Sreyas S to participate in the project. “Out of nowhere, I got a call from Sreyas S (CEO of Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films) that Dhanush sir was making this film with Sun Pictures and that they would like me to play a character. It felt like the universe was giving me some sort of sign.”

It has been established that Dhanush wrote the script for Raayan, despite early rumours claiming that Selvaraghavan did. The film has music composed by AR Rahman, cinematography by Om Prakash, and editing by Prasanna GK.

Raayan’s official OTT partner has not yet been revealed, however it is anticipated that SunNXT would carry the movie after it opens in theatres. The anticipation for this much awaited movie is growing as the release date draws near.
