Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal is now at rest after a month of wrecking havoc at the box office and exceeding all trade expectations. Before it concludes its final run, the Sandeep Reddy Vanga action thriller has broken yet another record, surpassing the Pathaan (starring Shah Rukh Khan) all-India collections.
The box office receipts for the animal film have been incredible since its December release. Animal made Rs 51 lakhs on its fifth Tuesday, missing its collections in crores for the first time since its opening on December 1, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. Animal has surpassed Pathaan’s record earnings with an all-India gross of Rs 546 cr after 33 days of release. In addition to Deepika Padukone, the film, which was directed by Siddharth Anand, grossed Rs 543 crore in Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi.
After Jawan, which has made Rs 643 cr., Animal is now the second-highest Bollywood grosser of the year. With collections of more than Rs 890 cr, Animal has secured the third position globally. The movie wants to make about Rs 900 crore in its final run. Pathaan (Rs 1050 cr) and Jawan (Rs 1,148 cr) have reserved the top two spots.
Animal, which has so far brought in Rs 496 cr, will come in at number four in terms of collections that are exclusively in Hindi. After Pathaan (Rs 524 cr), Gadar 2 (Rs 525 cr), and Jawan (Rs 582 cr), it is expected to cross the Rs 500 cr club in Hindi.
Animal made money even though it competed with Vicky Kaushal’s Sam Bahadur at the box office, received an A certificate, which restricted its audience, and had a nearly three-and-a-half-hour running length, which lessened its exposure. The film encountered significant competition during the final week of December, as two major Christmas releases—Salaar, starring Prabhas, and Dunki, starring Shah Rukh Khan—took over the screens.
The Sandeep Reddy Vanaga film Animal received mixed reviews upon its premiere, with many criticizing it for being violent, vulgar, and sexist. But that didn’t stop people from seeing it, and as a result, it became one of the most talked-about movies of the year.
