Despite garnering praise from critics, Vicky Kaushal’s Sam Bahadur fails to draw the same crowds to theaters as Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal, which also opened on the same day. The movie manages to stay afloat, though, because its Tuesday box office takes are comparable to its Monday take.
Industry tracker Sacnilk reports that on day five of Sam Bahadur, Vicky Kaushal’s box office collection stood at Rs 3.50 crore (early estimates), with an estimated 21.86% Hindi occupancy. With this, the movie’s total earnings in India reached Rs 32.55 crore. The movie is “performing best at select metros,” according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
Box office receipts for Sam Bahadur thus far
November 1 marked the opening of the biopic directed by Meghana Gulzar about Sam Manekshaw, the first Field Marshal of India, which took in Rs 6.25 crore at the box office. At Rs 9 crore, the figure increased by 44% on Saturday. After earning Rs 10.3 crore on Sunday, the movie got even better. Though it made Rs 3.50 crore, the movie saw a sharp 66.02% decline after failing the first Monday test, which was very important.
Vicky Kaushal’s last film, The Great Indian Family, ended its run in theaters with approximately Rs 5.65 crore. The film’s collection is also comparable to the actor’s previous hit, Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, which made Rs 88 crore during its lifetime.
By contrast, Animal, starring Ranbir Kapoor, is still drawing a consistent crowd to the theaters. In India, the movie has made over Rs 250 crore, and worldwide, it has made over Rs 450 crore.
