The four Beatles films that Sam Mendes is producing will all be released in theaters in April 2028.
Casting
Joseph Quinn will play George Harrison, Barry Keoghan will represent Ringo Starr, Harris Dickinson will play John Lennon, and Paul Mescal will play Paul McCartney. In the manner that the band popularized during their prime, the four celebrities emerged on stage and bowed.
Officially titled “The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event,” Mendes pledged that the multi-part biography would be the “first binge-able theatrical experience.” It’s unclear if that implies the films will be distributed weekly or all at once.
Director
All four of the films will be released in theaters in April 2028, director Sam Mendes announced while he was on stage at CinemaCon in Las Vegas to reveal the cast. Last year saw the initial announcement of the unexpected plans to produce four documentaries, one for each member of the renowned band.
The director, who has worked on films including “American Beauty” and “Skyfall,” has long envisioned the Fab Four on the big screen. However, he was concerned that “the story was too huge to fit into a single movie” and did not want to create a miniseries. In an attempt to depict their unlikely journey from Liverpool to the epicenter of world culture, he devised a plan to recount the narrative of “the greatest band in history” from the viewpoint of each of its members. That amounted to one of the largest wagers in film history and four stand-alone films.
Additionally, the movie is the first narrative picture to be given the music rights to the Beatles’ vast repertoire of hits, including “Strawberry Fields,” “Let It Be,” “I Am the Walrus,” “Yellow Submarine,” and far too numerous to list here.
A year will be needed for main photography on the four projects, Mendes indicated, demonstrating the enormous amount of work he is doing. The head of Sony Pictures, Tom Rothman, who was in charge of a particular James Cameron sci-fi epic while he worked at Fox, made a joke about Mendes’ movie giving him “Avatar” flashbacks.
