Sony Pictures’ next shark thriller, Shiver (formerly titled Beneath the Storm), will be released in the summer of 2026. The film, which was directed by Tommy Wirkola, stars Bridgerton alum Phoebe Dynevor. Capcom and Legendary Entertainment’s live-action Street Fighter adaptation is a mystery.
Release Date
The movie is swimming to July 3, 2026, after initially being scheduled to open in theaters on August 1 of this year.Naturally, that is the weekend of Independence Day, which serves as the backdrop for another summer popcorn movie featuring a big, ferocious fish from fifty years ago. Due to the change, Shiver will now face the most recent entry in Universal’s Minions franchise, which debuts on July 1, 2026.
Cast and Producer
Produced by Adam McKay and Kevin Messick, the film, which is now called Shiver rather than Beneath the Storm, stars Djimon Hounsou (A Quiet Place: Day One, Constantine), Whitney Peak (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Hocus Pocus 2), and Phoebe Dynevor (Bridgerton, Fair Play).
Beginning as an arcade fighting game in 1987, the Street Fighter franchise has since expanded to include spin-offs, crossovers, and six additional mainline games. The most recent numbered entry in the series is Street Fighter 6, released in 2023. In 1994, Jean-Claude Van Damme played Guile, Raúl Juliá played M. Bison, and Ming-Na Wen played Chun-Li in the film adaption of the same name.
Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, released in 2009, was 20th Century Fox’s second attempt to bring the fighting action to the big screen. However, both films were critical and financial failures, though the former was able to achieve cult status within the year.
Along with manga and comics, the IP has also been the basis for a number of animated movies and television shows.
What This Means For Street Fighter
If this is the case, it merely means that the project requires more time to be properly developed and does not necessarily mean that it has stopped. This entails finding the ideal performers for the Street Fighter film in addition to maybe improving the plot. They must possess the acting and action-oriented abilities that are anticipated of their roles since they will be the face of the franchise’s new live-action production. A key player in this process will be Sakurai, who has directed multiple episodes of Twisted Metal.
