The official release date of Look Back U.S. for North American markets has been announced.

What is the Look Back U.S. release date?

October 4, 2024, has been scheduled as the day of Look Back’s nationwide theatrical debut in its original Japanese language. Kiyotaka Oshiyama directed the film, which is based on the critically acclaimed original manga by best-selling author Tatsuki Fujimoto (Chainsaw Man).

Look Back, which had its premiere in Japan earlier this year, became an international phenomenon. Following a successful launch on more than 100 screens and a box office haul of over 1 billion yen ($6.9 million), the movie has been given the go-ahead for an extended run in Japan. The movie is also the first full-length production from Oshiyama’s company, Studio Durian. Oshiyama worked as a Key Animator on Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron and on the anime adaptation of Chainsaw Man before beginning production on Look Back.

“Popular, outgoing Fujino is celebrated by her classmates for her funny comics in the class newspaper,” reads the official synopsis for the film. “One day, her teacher asks her to share the space with Kyomoto, a truant recluse whose beautiful artwork sparks a competitive fervor in Fujino. What starts as jealousy transforms when Fujino realizes their shared passion for drawing.”
