Film enthusiasts and filmmakers alike look forward to Sankranti season the most. Due to the numerous holidays and family walk-ins, every major production house and hero tries to release their products during this season. Like previous years, Sankranthi 2024 was fiercely contested because popular songs like Hanuman, Guntur Kaaram, Saindhav, and Naa Saami Ranga were released during the festival. This year has become the biggest Sankranti for Tollywood ever.
Sankranti 2020 was the biggest Tollywood film to date. On Sankranti, Ala Vaikunthapuuramuloo, Sarileru Neekevvaru, and Entha Manchivaadavuraa were set free. With impressive performances, Ala Vaikunthapuuramuloo and Sarileru Neekevvaru became Telugu’s non-Baahubali top grossers.
Among the four Sankranti films that were released, Hanuman did exceptionally well, earning over 290 crores. Following Hanuman, Guntur Kaaram grossed over 180 crores, which was a respectable showing; however, Saindhav’s box office performance was lackluster. Together, these two films brought in about Rs 55Cr.
When combined, these films brought in a total of Rs 525Cr, surpassing the earnings from 2020 Sankranti to become the biggest Sankranti ever. Sankranti in 2020 brought in almost 500 crores in revenue. In Telugu cinema history, 2020 Sankranti remains the largest, even when examining solely the Telugu language collections. 2024 is the largest number of languages combined.
