The Beetlejuice On September 6th, the much awaited sequel to Tim Burton’s 1988 masterpiece Beetlejuice opened in theatres. In just three and a half weeks, the film has earned about $375 million at the worldwide box office. It’s almost time for Beetlejuice to return home, as Warner Bros. plans to release the film on October 8th via digital and PVOD platforms, according to Deadline. On that date, it will be accessible for purchase or rental on a number of platforms, including Fandango at Home, Google Play, AppleTV, and Amazon Prime Video. On November 19, there will be a physical media release for 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD.

The Beetlejuice Before it was ever produced, Beetlejuice was in development hell for decades. Jonathan Gems was brought on board in 1990 to pen a Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian sequel. Pamela Norris rewrote that script, Warner Bros. invited Kevin Smith to rewrite it, and Burton thought about having Daniel Waters do it. He declined it. In 2011, Seth Grahame-Smith was brought on board to pen and create a revised sequel. In 2017, he hired Mike Vukadinovich to revise his script.

The screenplay for Beetlejuice 2, which was filmed, was written by Wednesday co-creators and showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. The sequel, which began filming in London and then moved to Vermont and Massachusetts, is being produced by Brad Pitt’s Plan B.

The official synopsis is as follows: Beetlejuice is back! After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened. With trouble brewing in both realms, it’s only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem.

In addition to Michael Keaton, who returns as Beetlejuice, the cast also includes Winona Ryder, who plays Lydia Deetz (now the host of the TV show Ghost House with Lydia Deetz); Catherine O’Hara, who plays Delia, Jenna Ortega, who plays Astrid, Justin Theroux, who plays Rory, Monica Bellucci, who plays Beetlejuice’s ex-wife; and Willem Dafoe, who plays a law enforcement officer in the afterlife. Arthur Conti is also in there, as a character named Jeremy Frazier.
