The release date of Martin Scorsese’s most recent documentary about The Beatles has been formally announced for Disney+.
According to Deadline, on November 29, Beatles ’64—which chronicles The Beatles’ first visit to America—will be available on Disney+. In addition to Margaret Bodde, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Olivia Harrison, Sean Ono Lennon, Jonathan Clyde, and Mikaela Beardsley, Scorsese is also producing the documentary, which was directed by David Tedeschi. The project’s executive producers are Rick Yorn and Jeff Jones. Beatles ’64 will feature never-before-seen, 4K-restored footage from the band’s first tour to America. In addition to interviews with fans who witnessed The Beatles’ amazing ascent to the top of the music industry, the documentary will include brand-new interviews with McCartney and Starr.
The official synopsis for Beatles ’64 reads, “On February 7, 1964, The Beatles arrived in New York City to unprecedented excitement and hysteria. From the instant they landed at Kennedy Airport, met by thousands of fans, Beatlemania swept New York and the entire country. Their thrilling debut performance on The Ed Sullivan Show captivated more than 73 million viewers, the most watched television event of its time. Beatles ’64 presents the spectacle, but also tells a more intimate behind the scenes story, capturing the camaraderie of John, Paul, George, and Ringo as they experienced unimaginable fame.” Scorsese has been involved in numerous documentaries centered around musicians over the years, including 2011’s George Harrison: Living in the Material World.
The Beatles Cinematic Universe is On the Way
The Beatles’ movie universe, led by the celebrated Sam Mendes, was one of the most intriguing to be revealed in a media landscape dominated by cinematic universes. Mendes will be directing four films that will focus on each member of The Beatles. This is a huge undertaking for the Bond director, made even more difficult by the fact that each film will be released in theatres in 2027. The announcement was made back in February. Though nothing has been confirmed yet, there are still rumours circulating about who will play McCartney, Starr, Harrison, and John Lennon in the ambitious biographical series.
The Beatles continue to have a significant influence on popular culture today, as seen by the abundance of books and films about the most famous rock group in the world. The Beatles: Get Back, another documentary on the band, will be joined by Beatles ’64 on Disney+. Peter Jackson’s three-part documentary miniseries was a huge hit for Disney+ and received a tonne of positive reviews from viewers and critics.
