The Forbidden Kingdom is a fantasy wuxia film that was first released in 2008. It was influenced by the classic Journey to the West from the 16th century. In the story, Angarano plays an American kid who is sent back in time to ancient China and has to accompany Lu Yan (Chan) and Sun Wukong (Li) on a quest to give back the Monkey King’s staff to its rightful owner.
This film is noteworthy for being the first to include both Jackie Chan and Jet Li, and it is frequently cited as one of the earliest coproductions in which an American director created an English-language wuxia picture. The film made $128 million globally upon its release, indicating a middling level of success.
