The Nevers and Westworld will be removed from HBO Max

“The Nevers” has been dropped partially through its first season by HBO. The sci-fi drama created by Joss Whedon and the recently canceled HBO series “Westworld” will no longer be available for streaming on HBO Max.

The back half of the first season of “The Nevers,” which was directed by Laura Donnelly and Ann Skelly and premiered in spring 2021, was scheduled to premiere on HBO next year. According to people familiar with the situation, it’s possible that the current batch of episodes, which were completed under the direction of new showrunner Philippa Goslett before the show even premiered after Whedon left, will air on a different platform.

“Westworld” was dropped by HBO on Nov. 4, just shy of 90 days after the series broadcasted its Season 4 finale Aug. 14.

The Warner Bros. Discovery-owned streaming service is removing a number of shows, including “Minx,” which had already been renewed for Season 2, and “Love Life,” which had not yet been picked up for Season 3. These shows, in contrast to “The Nevers” and “Westworld,” were HBO Max originals.

J.J. Abrams produced “Westworld,” which starred Evan Rachel Wood, Thandiwe Newton, Ed Harris, Jeffrey Wright, Tessa Thompson, Luke Hemsworth, Aaron Paul, Angela Sarafyan, and James Marsden. The show was created by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, a husband-and-wife production team. Daniel Wu, Ariana DeBose, and Aurora Perrineau were among the Season 4 newcomers.

Warner Brothers. Disclosure has been eliminating spending since it set off to find $3.5 billion in cost-saving cooperative energies throughout the following three years post-April consolidation. However, HBO still has a number of big-budget dramas, including “House of the Dragon,” “Euphoria,” and the upcoming “The Last of Us” adaptation, despite a poor third-quarter earnings report. CEO David Zaslav has continued to emphasize the importance of healthy content spending.

In addition to the money saved by not continuing with the shows at all, WB Discovery is able to save money on residuals paid to production cast and crew by pulling shows from HBO Max.
