The highly regarded film directed by Darren Aronofsky, which stars Austin Butler from Dune: Part Two and Elvis Presley, has finally been given a release date by Sony Pictures. With a cast full of celebrities and the Academy Award-nominated actor, Caught Stealing will open in theatres on August 29, 2025.

The release date of Aronofsky’s picture coincides with that of Blumhouse and Sony’s next Insidious feature, which was initially scheduled for this year. Caught Stealing, which is based on Charlie Huston’s novel and has been adapted for the big screen, will follow Butler’s character Hank, a former baseball player whose life has taken a turn for the worse. Hank, who now works as a barman in Manhattan’s Lower East Side, has a routine life until he meets some dangerous people, which throws him into a dangerous struggle for survival in the 1990s New York City criminal underground.

On the day that Sony had originally planned for the impending Insidious sequel—which the company has since rescheduled for August 2026—Caught Stealing opens in theatres. The sixth installment in the franchise and the sequel to 2023’s Insidious: The Red Door, which brought in $198 million at the global box office, is scheduled for release by Screen Gems. Additionally, it was the first feature film that franchise actor Patrick Wilson (The Conjuring, Aquaman, Watchmen) directed.

Aronofsky, the director of Caught Stealing, has established himself as a visionary filmmaker renowned for his gripping and frequently fantastical narratives. Aronofsky has received praise from critics for his earlier films, including Requiem for a Dream (2000), Black Swan (2010), and The Wrestler (2008). His principal actor, Brendan Fraser, won an Academy Award for Best Actor for his 2022 picture, The Whale, which was much praised.

Stealing’s Star-Studded Cast Was Captured

Butler will co-star with a number of well-known celebrities in the upcoming movie Caught Stealing. Zoë Kravitz (The Batman, Blink Twice) and Academy Award winner Regina King, who has acted in a number of high-profile films, such as American Crime, Watchmen, and If Beale Street Could Talk, will also make an appearance. Matt Smith, star of Doctor Who and House of the Dragon, is also a member of the ensemble. The Aronofsky-directed crime thriller will feature appearances by multi-award nominated actor Liev Schreiber (The Manchurian Candidate, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Ray Donovan) and well-known musician-turned-actor Bad Bunny (Bullet Train).
