The Storyteller: OTT Release Details for the Satyajit Ray-Inspired Movie Starring Paresh Rawal

One of Satyajit Ray’s well-known short stories served as the inspiration for The Storyteller, which starred Paresh Rawal. Under the direction of Ananth Mahadevan, this movie examines friendship, personal growth, and the transformational potential of storytelling.

The Storyteller has been shown in the Palm Springs International Film Festival and the London Indian Film Festival after its 2022 debut at the Busan International Film Festival. Disney Plus Hotstar is scheduled to start broadcasting it on January 28, 2025.

Based on Satyajit Ray’s Golpo Boliye Tarini Khuro, this moving movie takes audiences on an emotional journey. The protagonist of the story is Paresh Rawal’s character Tarini Khuro, an eccentric and elderly man who is renowned for his storytelling skills.

Known in his society for delivering elaborate stories that might seem fanciful or exaggerated, Tarini’s works progressively reveal a more profound and important aspect of his storytelling skills as the plot develops.

Ananth Mahadevan gave Variety further details about his decision to adapt Ray’s narrative in 2022. If the movie were to be a tribute, he explained, it would have to imitate the master’s manner. However, he tried to avoid coming across as “outdated,” acknowledging the progress of cinema.

In order to preserve his own directorial vision of how the movie may have looked if Ray had directed it himself, Mahadevan chose to adopt Ray’s cinematic aesthetic.

Known for his part in Hera Pheri, Paresh Rawal also discussed his feelings on taking part in the project. He explained that even though he was never able to work with Ray, playing a role that he had created was like living out a dream. Rawal noted how the narrative captivated him from the first time he read it.

In addition to Paresh, the film features Tannishtha Chatterjee, Adil Hussain, and Revathy. Jio Studios, Purpose Entertainment, and Quest Films support The Storyteller, which is produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Salil Chaturvedi, Succhanda Chatterjee, and Shubha Shetty.
