Since its release five weeks ago, The Super Mario Bros. Movie has received a lot of praise, and it’s honestly hard to keep up. The movie always achieves new milestones and breaks records, and today it achieved yet another.
The North American box office for The Super Mario Bros. Movie has reached $500 million as of this writing. After Spider-Man: No Way Home ($814.1 million), Top Gun: Maverick ($718.7 million) and Avatar: The Way of Water ($683.9 million), this makes it the fourth film in the pandemic era to earn $500 million domestically.
More importantly, this is the first animated film from Universal and Illumination to gross more than $500 million domestically (not including inflation). The Super Mario Bros. Movie is additionally the second highest-grossing animated film ever locally, and the third-biggest Universal release ever, coming behind Jurassic World and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.
