“The Trophy Bride”: 3388 Films Sets for the North American and European Theatre Release of Vietnam’s Most Recent Hit

The Trophy Bride (Co Dau Hao Mon), Vietnam’s most recent box office smash, will be released on 8 November in North America and Europe, including the UK, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Poland, Czech Republic, and Slovakia, according to speciality distributor 3388 Films.

Director Vu Ngoc Dang, who co-directed 2021’s Bo Gia, Vietnam’s No. 4 box office smash of all time and the first Vietnam-produced film to earn over $1 million at the U.S. box office, is the creator of the dramatic thriller with humorous aspects. That title was managed by 3388 Films, a global champion of Southeast Asian films.

The Trophy Bride topped the Vietnam box office when movie debuted in its local market on October 18 and has already made $2.5 million. Will Vu of Muse Films is the producer.

The plot revolves around a poor family who, in a desperate attempt to become wealthy, risk everything as high society con artists in a bold plan to have their only daughter become the trophy wife of a wealthy family. The movie is marketed as a contemporary take on the traditional Vietnamese belief of which basically means that a couple must have similar social and economic backgrounds in order to have a long and happy marriage; people from different backgrounds will have different viewpoints, which will lead to arguments and make married life challenging.

The ensemble cast features Kieu Minh Tuan, a two-time Golden Kite Award winner for Best Actor (Vietnam’s Oscar equivalent), and Uyen An, who has starred in two of the three biggest box office hits in Vietnam’s history as a lead or supporting actress.

Explains producer Will Vu, “The social topic of is very close to all Vietnamese people. I hope the film’s fresh take on this topic will have a far reach and be welcomed by the global audience.”
