There has been a significant release update for the sequel to what is regarded as the first full-length horror picture directed by a single woman in America. The Unravelling, a 2023 psychological horror film starring Sarah Zanotti, Sam Brooks, Katherine Morgan, and Ali Alsaleh, will be released later this year on October 8, according to exclusive information obtained by The Hollywood Reporter. Director Kd Amond is also listed as a writer for the movie, and screenplay credit goes to lead actor Zanotti. The movie is a direct follow-up to the 2021 horror film Faye, which Amond co-wrote, co-directed, and co-starred in with Zanotti, who will reprise her role as Mary.

The Unravelling is a terrifying and intensely emotional examination of trauma, paranoia, remorse, and love—all seen via a horror lens, according to the official synopsis. The movie centres on a woman who suffers a horrific and traumatic brain injury and eventually begins to believe that her husband has been replaced by a new man. Mary enters a terrifying nightmare that makes her doubt her own sanity while traversing a labyrinth of terror and deceit when she receives phone calls from someone pretending to be her first spouse. Although Faye has garnered mixed reviews (it now has a 37% rating with over 100 reviews on IMDb), The Unravelling offers an opportunity to make amends and produce a sequel that will be considerably better than the first.

What Else Has ‘The Unraveling’ Cast Been In?

Amond’s sole other directing project, aside from The Unravelling and Faye, was the comedy Five Women in the End, which starred Michael Cudlitz, Corri English, and Dean Shortland in 2019. Zanotti is also a relatively new actor; she starred in two Amond-directed films, Faye and The Unravelling, after making her feature debut in 2020’s Archaon: The Halloween Summoning.

Having starred as Travis Thomas in multiple episodes of the CW series Stargirl, Brooks has gained recognition. He has also had appearances in a number of other TV shows and films, including Malum, One More Dream, and Long Slow Exhale. Alsaleh is another up-and-coming actor who began his career in short films in 2018 and 2019. Since then, he has starred in major motion pictures and television shows, including the MCU Disney+ series Ms. Marvel and the Dwayne Johnson-led biographical comedy series Young Rock.

On October 8, The Unravelling will be released in theatres.
