After 2020’s Mulan and 2021’s Cruella, Disney follows up their ongoing string of classic remakes with Pinocchio. An all-new trailer offering a first look of Disney’s next huge retelling adventure is out.
Pinocchio himself is for the most part missing from the trailer, and he shows up in the last few seconds, as Cynthia Erivo’s Blue Fairy gives Gepetto’s desire to transform his dearest puppet into a real boy.
Gepetto is played by acting heavyweight Tom Hanks, who is by all accounts the concentration in the trailer. We see him play out that famous wishing moment, prior to getting different looks at the film’s star-studded cast that incorporates Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Pinocchio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Jiminy Cricket, Luke Evans as the evil Coachman, Keegan-Michael Key as Honest John, and Lorraine Bracco as a new character named Sofia the Seagull.
Director Robert Zemeckis steerages this project. With 2009’s The Christmas Carol (featuring Jim Carrey) on his portfolio, Zemeckis has sufficient experience adapting classic children’s stories for film. Oddly, this isn’t the only big project this year in light of Carlo Collodi’s 19th century children’s novel. Guillermo del Toro is additionally working on his own stop-motion project under a similar name.
The film’s trailer likewise drew a lot of reactions online, with a few fans expecting to see some of the quirky, surreal elements from the original 1940 animated film.
Pinocchio is set to release on Disney+ this September.
