The Chinese technology giant Xiaomi is reportedly working on an electric SUV, which could be unveiled before the year is out. This comes shortly after the company unveiled its first car, an all-electric sedan.
Xiaomi is a well-known and respected brand in China and other parts of the world for its electronic devices, especially smartphones, despite being a newcomer to the automotive industry. In just 27 minutes after its debut, the brand’s first vehicle, the SU7, secured 50,000 firm orders, and it is keen to capitalize on the excitement surrounding its foray into the electric vehicle market.
Xiaomi plans to introduce its second model with battery-electric and electric range-extended options in an attempt to capitalize on this momentum, which would be a first for the company.
Based on the brand’s Modena platform is the SU7. Although it would make sense, according to a report from MyDrivers, Xiaomi’s second model does not use the same EV architecture. Rather, a new platform that can support a range-extender option is anticipated to be used by the upcoming SUV, which may go by the name SU8. This new car, which resembles the Porsche Cayenne in size, will go up against the Li Auto L9, which has a similar range-extending drivetrain.
Based on the SU7’s design, the Xiaomi SU8 has the potential to be a highly noticeable device. The SUV has already been depicted in a number of online renderings, such as the ones displayed here from independent artist Sugar Design. The SUV is shown in these drawings with headlights and taillights that are similar to the sedan’s but integrated into bodywork that is evocative of the Ferrari Purosangue.
The value of the Xiaomi brand has already been significantly impacted by the release of the SU7. Xiaomi’s share price has soared since the sedan’s recent introduction, increasing the company’s valuation to a potential $7.6 billion. Xiaomi’s value has increased to $55.2 billion due to this value surge.
